“Australia is innovation” video contest
Terms and conditions
1) Introduction
The Australian Embassy in Buenos Aires, located at Villanueva 1400 in the City of Buenos Aires, Argentina, in its character as Organiser (henceforth referred to as “Organiser”) invites secondary school students to participate in the “Australia is innovation” contest, henceforth referred to as “the contest”.
2) Theme and objectives
Australia is a young and vibrant country with a strong entrepreneurial spirit, which has placed it on a path of constant innovation. Australian ideas and inventions have benefitted millions of people worldwide. The objective of the contest is to award participants who creatively showcase the innovative character of Australia or the impact of an Australian invention, in a video of up to three minutes’ duration.
3) Who can particpate
Students attending secondary school in Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay can participate. Entry to the contest is voluntary and without charge. Videos can be created individually or in groups. Only one video can be presented per individual or group. One prize will be awarded per winning video, not one per group member. Children and direct family of Embassy employees and honorary consuls in Paraguay and Uruguay are not permitted to enter. Participation in the competition signifies knowledge and acceptance of these terms and conditions.
4) Content and format of the videos
The content of the video should be related to the innovative character of Australia. For example, it might showcase an Australian invention. We encourage you to be creative in producing educational and entertaining videos. The method of creating your video is completely up to you. The following is a list of some examples and ideas that can be used separately or individually, or you might add your own:
• News report
• Interview
• Animation
• Dramatic recreation
• Others
The language of the videos can be English or Spanish. The maximum duration of the video is 3 minutes. Videos can be recorded on cell phone cameras, photo cameras, video cameras or other recording devices. Videos can be presented in the following formats: .MOV, .AVI, .WMV, .MP4 Videos must not include copyright materials, that is, video or music sequences used without the permission of the creator. The Organiser is not responsible for videos which use copyright images without the appropriate permissions.
Videos must under no circumstances contain any material which could be considered offensive, discriminatory, sexist, racist and/or which alludes to partisan political or religious issues, content which could affect the reputation of a person or organisation, or which threatens public order and propriety. The Organiser reserves the right to reject any material it considers to be contrary to these guidelines, and disqualify the participant/s who submit it. Participants may not submit videos which have received prizes in other competitions or which have be published in any audio-visual or digital medium.
5) Submission rules and deadlines
Each video should be uploaded with the caption “Australia is innovation video competition – [name of participant]” to one of the following sites: YouTube, Vimeo or Flicker. Once your video is uploaded, send the entry form below by email to the following address: [email protected]. The subject of the email must be “Australia is innovation video competition – [name of participant]”
Videos will be accepted from 8 October 2013 to 23 December 2013 at 12pm. Videos which arrive outside of this period will be automatically disqualified. The date of entry will be taken as the date on which the Organiser receives your email with the completed entry form. If circumstances require it, the Organiser reserves the right to postpone, modify, cancel or totally or partially change these conditions, which will not give rise to a claim on behalf of the participants, nor any type of compensation.
6) Prizes
The top three videos will win the following prizes:
1. An iPad Mini and a boogie board
2. An iPad Mini and an Australian showbag
3. An iPad Mini
One prize will be awarded per winning video and do not correspond to the number of participants who created the video.
7) Selection and announcement of winning videos
A jury, composed of employees of the Australian Embassy, will select the finalist videos which will be shown at the event to celebrate Australia Day on 27 January 2014. The attendees at the event will vote to decide the three winning videos. The originality, creativity and quality of the videos will be deciding factors. The announcement of the winners will be made on 28 January 2014 on the Embassy’s Facebook and webpage.
8) Presentation of prizes
Prizes will be presented at a reception at the Australian Ambassador’s Residence in Buenos Aires, in March 2014. The exact date will be communicated to the winners via email. In the event that a winner cannot attend the event to receive their prize, it will remain in the Organiser’s possession until the winner can pick it up from the Australian Embassy in Buenos Aires. If there are winners from Paraguay and/or Uruguay, the Organiser will arrange to send the prize to those countries.
9) Responsibility
The Organiser will not be responsible for any aspect of the competition not foreseen in these terms and conditions, nor any external event or circumstance beyond its control. The Organiser will not be responsible for any error, omission, interruption, suppression or loss of emails sent to it.
On sending the video to participate in the competition, the participant/s confirm that they are the author of the video and agree to the following:
(a) grant the Organiser a permanent, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty free, non-exclusive right to use, re-use, publish, re-publish my video , in whole or in part, in any medium, now or at any time in the future;
(b) release the Organiser from any proceeding, claim, or demand by me or anyone on my behalf arising from the use of my video; and
(c) acknowledge and agree that my video and associated personal information collected on this form will be stored by the Organiser on an electronic database and may used for any related purpose of the Organiser.
