Enquiries
Visa and citizenship applications are handled by Home Affairs (Department of Home Affairs). Embassy staff cannot assist with general enquiries regarding visas or citizenship. The Home Affairs website contains the most up-to-date and comprehensive information on how to handle visa and citizenship matters. It also includes definitions and useful tools for understanding the requirements. Visit the website at Immigration and citizenship.
If you have trouble finding information on the website, you can use the Virtual Assistant. The Assistant will help you find information about Australian visas, citizenship, and border entry. Visit the website of Immigration and citizenship and click on the button “Ask a Question” to start.
Global Service Centre (GSC)
If you require further information, you can call the Global Service Centre at +61 2 6196 0196, Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time.
International calls may be subject to charges imposed by your local carrier. You may wish to consider using a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) provider to avoid potentially high charges.
Using an interpreter
When calling GSC, select option 6 to access interpreter services in your language via the Translation and Interpreting Service (TIS). You can select this option immediately after dialing the GSC number. Alternatively, you can also engage a TIS interpreter directly through:
• TIS website: Search | Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS National), or
• Home Affairs: Family and friends helping with your application
Comments, complaints, and suggestions
Your feedback is valuable to Home Affairs. The department uses your feedback to improve services and to investigate and respond to any issues that concern you. You can find more information on the department's website at Compliments, complaints and suggestions.
Reporting Suspicious Border
Activity If something seems suspicious, report it anonymously to Border Watch. Border Watch is the sole point of contact for the Department of Home Affairs and the Australian Border Force (ABF) regarding suspicious border activity, and this is not limited to immigration and citizenship. A small observation could help stop a more serious border crime. You can report suspicious immigration, customs, and border activity through Border Watch Online Report.
